Rene’ Guzman

Guest Conductor

Rene’ Guzman is a brass instructor with 42 years experience. He grew up in Brownsville and Laredo, Texas, and graduated from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas in 1972 after having been drafted into the military in January of 1971. He served and performed with the 49th Texas National Guard Band in Austin, Texas for 16 years, and was a band director in the Eagle Pass, Laredo, Mercedes, and McAllen public schools.

After retirement in 2003, Rene’ has been a band consultant with many schools in the Rio Grande Valley, San Antonio, and the Hill Country. He has performed with the Corpus Cristi Symphony, the Rio Grande Valley Town Band, the South Texas Symphony, and is currently a member of the Heart of Texas Concert Band in San Antonio.

This year is his third year of being the musical director of the Spotlight Theater and Arts Group Etc. (S.T.A.G.E.) based in Bulverde, Texas, where he also resides with his wife, Linda, their two collies, Mac and Molly, and their cat, Kinky. Rene’ was inducted into the Rio Grande Valley Hall of Fame in 2012. Rene’ loves woodworking, repairing musical instruments, motorcycling, and keeping the yard neat. Currently, Rene’ is the brass instructor for Music and Arts based at The Forum.
