Jose Noriega

Tuba Soloist

Jose Noriega is an avid supporter of music performance through several genres. Having diverse experience performing in Tex-Mex, conjunto, punk-ska, reggae, and polka groups, he regularly performs with conjunto band Grupo Tan Tan and Tex-Mex band Los Callejeros de San Anto for both private/public events. Since arriving to San Antonio in 2019, he has worked with Bexar Brass (Nola-style brass band San Antonio), The Swingin’ Dutchmen (polka group New Braunfels), Hans Gruber & the Die Hards (ska-punk band Austin), Cool Under Fire (rocksteady band Austin), and The Skajects (ska band San Antonio).

A retired music teacher, his teaching experience hails from Nevada, having taught middle school band for the Clark County School District several years. His band performed for television program Vegas PBS and featured in the Las Vegas Hispanic Heritage Parade. He was Principal Tuba for The Desert Winds, performing the 2016 Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Il. He has also taught for Drum Corps International’s Genesis Drum & Bugle Corps (Austin).

Past appointments include Principal Tuba for Orquesta Filarmonica Cd. de Matamoros (Mexico) and acting Principal Tuba for the Valley Symphony Orchestra.

Jose holds a Master of Music degree from the University of Texas Pan American (now UTRGV) and a Bachelor of Music degree from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi. He loves his cats Avalon and Tyrone!
