Elaina Walzel

Bassoon Soloist

San Antonio native, Elaina Walzel, is a recent graduate of Texas State University, with a degree in Music Education with a goal to one day become an educator. Elaina plans to continue her education and earn her master’s and a doctorate in bassoon performance. She strives to become a bassoon professor at a major university and perform in a major symphony orchestra. With 10 years of bassoon performance under her belt, she has sat principal bassoon in the Texas State University Wind Symphony (4 years), Texas State University Symphony Orchestra (2 years), Starlight Symphony Orchestra (1 Year), SMART Orchestra (2 years), and won the 2017/18 Texas State University Aria/Concerto Competition. She has served as a substitute bassoonist/contra bassoonist in the Victoria Symphony and the Kingsville Symphony Orchestra. She performed in the Prairie Winds Festival in Kansas, Blue Lake Festival Ensembles in Michigan, and the Vianden Chamber Music Festival in Luxembourg. Elaina has been teaching private lessons since her senior year in high school managing a studio of up to 17 bassoonists from the San Antonio, San Marcos, and Kyle area. Elaina’s personal bassoon is currently 5 years old and is named Diana Benita after her aunt and grandmother who were her biggest fans. She has two dogs named Hershey (Miniature Pincher) and Henry (Austrian Shepard). In her spare time, she races in 5k’s, waterskis, and loves to hike.
