Carlos Navarro

Conductor

Carlos Navarro is an alumnus of the Master of Music in Wind Conducting program at Texas A&M University-Kingsville. During his graduate studies, Mr. Navarro served as a Graduate Assistant for the university’s band program, assisting in the direction of the Pride of South Texas Javelina Marching Band. He also guest conducted the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and University Band, in addition to contributing to the instruction of undergraduate conducting courses under the mentorship of Dr. Scott Jones.

As a conductor, Mr. Navarro has performed and competed at events across the United States. In March 2023, he performed with the South Texas Saxophone Orchestra at the North American Saxophone Alliance Conference. Most recently, he was named a semifinalist in the inaugural Tidewater Conducting Competition. He has also served as a conducting fellow with the Texas New Music Festival, where he premiered new works with the Texas New Music Ensemble.

Currently, Mr. Navarro serves as Assistant Director of Bands at Medina Valley High School. In this role, he is the Primary Conductor of the Concert Band, co-teaches the Wind Ensemble, Panther Band, and Symphonic Band, directs the Jazz Band, coordinates choreography for the Panther Marching Band, and oversees the band program’s inventory.

Mr. Navarro is also the Artistic Director and Primary Conductor of the Kingsville Winds, a community ensemble he founded during his time at Texas A&M University-Kingsville in partnership with the university’s band department. Additionally, he guest conducts with the Heart of Texas Concert Band, a community ensemble affiliated with Alamo City Arts in San Antonio.

Mr. Navarro holds active memberships in the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA) and the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). He is also a proud sister of Tau Beta Sigma, National Honorary Band Sorority, and a brother of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, National Music Fraternity.
